Google I/O 2015 – End of Big Technology Innovation Era?

Google IO 2015 End of InnovationGoogle has been known to do things, not in a traditional way and continue to innovate at a faster pace than the rest of the Bleeding Edge Tech Industry. However, Google I/0 2015 in my opinion has been a total disappointment as I didn’t see anything with WoW Factor or Out of the Box Innovation. Looks like the company is having a tough time given by a company run on Behavioral Science grabbing all Advertising Dollars (Guess which one it is ?) and giving sleepless nights to all the Engineers @ Mountain View. IMHO, this will get worse as the morale of overworked engineers at Google will sink if their bottom line growth is tepid relative to competitors in the valley getting tens of billions of dollar in valuation.

Android M and Project Brillo are the only two things worth Mention from I/O 2015
The central theme around the new Android M which is still under development is improvements to user experience. Android Doze uses motion detection to determine if a device is active and goes into a standby mode enabling device to last up to 2x longer. App permissions – Google is finally giving more power to users to control their own user experience on Android. Permissions will be able to be set by feature (e.g., location, camera, microphone) when the user tries to access these functions instead of being set when the app is installed. Google’s Product Managers should have thought about Privacy Issues right since the days of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and not after all the stupid App Makers have stolen User Address Book and other Data, which is ir-relevant to their App functioning. Web experience & Chrome Tab Google wants to make the web experience more seamless for users. Developers will be able to integrate Chrome Custom Tabs directly into their apps so users can have the full functionality of Chrome without having to leave the app [Why FireFox is not a choice ? Google’s Don’t be Evil dig at Microsoft is now an Oxymoron] Android M will enable developers to integrate Android Pay functionality into their apps for in-app payments. Further, Google noted that Google Wallet will come pre-installed on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile phones and is now accepted at 700k stores. Finally, a copy of Apple’s iOS Finger Print support on Android Mobiles. So where has all the F***ing Innovation gone ?

Project Brillo, an underlying operating system for the Internet of Things (IoT). The announcement marks Google’s latest initiative to be a leader in IoT, following its 2014 acquisitions Nest Labs and Dropcam. Google also introduced Weave, a common language enabling IoT devices to communicate with one another, with the cloud and with a mobile device.
