Vodafone-Hutch-Essar introduces Call Filter / Blocking

The NDNCRegistry did go online in India but most consumers feel it’s a painful exercise. Vodafone-Essar which has been active in receiving its customer feedback today became the first mobile service provider in India to introduce unwanted call blocking and filtering mechanism to any of its customer irrespective of the mobile handset the customer owns. The unwanted caller will hear the following message – The Hutch subscriber you have called does not wish to receive your call right now, please try again later.

Harit Nagpa, Director, Marketing & new Business said,

Even though mobile phones have become an integral part of our everyday lives, incessant calls from unwanted numbers takes away a lot of time from our busy schedules. Hutch claims it’s Call Filter service would help subscribers identify such callers and avoid their calls. This service is our next step after the Do-Not-Disturb initiative to protect the privacy of our subscribers.

I am sure they have some charge associated with this service but is worth it, if you have someone  stalking you 😉

The race for Numero Uno doesn’t end in India. Reliance Communications became the first telecom service provider to introduce mobile money transfer [Variations like Bill Pay exist]. Another Reliance group company launched GamePlex – retail chain of gaming cafes.

Update: Some Hutch user called to tell me that Hutch charges Rs 99 / Month for the Call Filter service.

  1. Instead, buy a software like Blasklist that gives to options to blacklist, whitelist, receive only list and others….all for just 500 rs. one time fee.

    Thats better !

  2. yes hutch did send the Promotional SMS about the call-filtering.
BUT they are NOT doing a favour onto us.. they’l charge us money for it.

AND Hutch especially conveniently makes sure that it does Promo calls less, but compensates by sending an excuritating number of promotional SMSes.

Wish there was a way to BLOCK these promotional SMS from the operator itself

  3. Send ‘DND’ to 123

  4. Hi everybody ,I think its a good service in many ways people can on their whitelist so they can get selected call on thier weekly off and with this they can know that who others blacklisted people r calling .In the and u r not forced to accept the calls. so once try it…

  5. Whether i register for DNC registry or not, what is the point in sending SMSs “SONA JEETO” etc at midnight or say 30 times a day ?

My wife is getting atleast 30 to 40 SMSs of same type everyday. So much that we switch of her hutch/vodaphone mobile at night.

TRAI, supreme court should suo moto take action.
Further these idiots claim that it will take 48 hours for the instruction to take effect. THIS IS NONSENSE.

Even banks update data next second when i withdraw money. They depend on the same communication systems which mobile companies use. What is the justification for 48 hours for DNC instruction to take effect ?

Also In this modern technology day, there is surely a way to block SMS delivery at midnight even when SMSs get jammed in traffic, but these companies dont do that.

I had the same problem with AIRTEL & it took nothing less than 15 calls to AIRTEL call centre to stop this menace. We cant switch off all phones at night.

It is so painful. Please… supreme court only can stop them.

  6. hi,

i was thinking mobile was’nt not necessary for my life, i realised this when i got the hutch/vodafone connection 🙁 , if u really hate somebudy then give the hutch connection as a gift. he will suffer as you are his enimy.
i requested, faught, complained but not response from those guys 🙁 that made me disconnect from hutch

  7. This is something similar to spice mute, i tried both spice and the hutch call filter service, but, they are too damn expensive and have lots of limitations, should check out a product called CELIBRA which is out in the US and South American markets, it is a wonderful product, ease of use and complete flexibility, its a killer app there, hope these guys dish it out to us customers..and mahesh is right, if you want someone to go through pain, gift them a hutch/vodafone connection..zindagi bhar yaad rakhe gaa.. 🙂

  8. No use since filtering calls would be charged and there is no end to adv sm’es they are equally a big botheration while at work.
