Supreme Court orders to start Do Call Registry

Even after a year of operation of NDNC Registry, TRAI regulations have failed to curb the tele-marketing mess in India. A division bench of the Supreme Court has now ordered the Ministry of Communications to setup a “Do Call Registry“. Only those callers who wish to be contacted by tele-marketing companies can enroll into the Do Call registry, the rest all are excluded by default and are not to be contacted for any promotions. [This is the same recommendation which I had written to TRAI in a separate issue]

The bench referring to Telcos said,

They are too big. You cannot take action against them. These calls invade privacy. This Do Not Call registry has been a failure.

Hopefully, the Ministry orders to stop the tele-marketing nuisance as early as possible.
