Choo Choo Railways go for wi-fi

Indian Railway Stations to be WifiedThe Wi-Fi bug has bitten the Indian Railways at a time when it is still struggling to provide clean drinking water & waiting room, freedom from cockroach etc. (forget comfort and luxury) for passengers. After testing wi-fi within railway coaches, it has now opted for an ambitious project to wifi enable – create Hotspots in various Railway Stations.

The telecom wing of Indian Railways, RailTel is in talks with Valley based Pronto Networks for the technology. Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkatta, Mumbai and Nagpur are the stations that are likely to get Hotspots in the first phase. RailTel has a massive OFC network of 37,000 Kms and is also planning to venture into NLD services.
