With spectrum being a scarce resource, the war between GSM and CDMA operators has intensified asking for a probe in every major policy decision. CDMA operators allege that GSM operators are not paying for additional spectrum allocated and for the spectrum allocated over 6.25 MHz, a cap for every operator.
GSM lobby represented by COAI has written to A.Raja to conduct a probe on the entry of CDMA operators into mobility services and also the aspect of morphing of WLL(M) into full-blown mobility. This is getting really ugly here. Lets hope that the ball won’t land in the Supreme Court like a decade and half ago when the initial licenses were allotted.
In a separate development, Macquaire Equity Research has upgraded Reliance Communications to a BUY with a price target of Rs 810. The analyst cites that Reliance’s GSM entry into 14 circles along with Flag Telecom IPO as the catalyst for recommendation. I am sure he is not tracking issues related to the wireless spectrum in India 🙂
