New Mobile Operators Fail to Make Impact in Revenue Market – A-Vo-Id Group Maintain Lead

Mobile Revenue Market Share IndiaIndian Mobile Companies have shifted focus from gaining subscriber market share to improving profitability. Given the industry consolidation, we expect pricing to improve over the next few quarters. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea [A-Vo-Id]continue to gain or maintain revenue market share while BSNL & Reliance Communications are the losers in this race so far.

On a yoy basis, the overall industry revenue increased 6% in Q4 [March Quarter]. Idea/Airtel/Vodafone grew revenues 12%/10%/8%, respectively, which is higher than the industry growth rate, while Uninor/RCOM/Tata DoCoMo’s revenues declined 18%5%/1%. As illustrated in our previous article, larger telcos will raise tariffs as they have the bargaining power and will likely gain market share as smaller telcos continue to be marginalized.

Tata DoCoMo, Uninor, SSTL and Aircel lost market share in 4Q as they selectively shutdown their operations in few circles. RCOM also lost 40 bp market share, mainly led by a decline in market share in B and C circles.

Since June-2010, A-Vo-Id group Revenue Market Share has increased from 66.8% to 68.9%. Reliance Communications saw its market-share decline from 11.2% to 7.4%. BSNL/Tata/Aircel have been able to sustain; Together they have a RMS of 27.8%. New Entrants have failed to make a significant impact and have to be content with just 3.3% market share.

Take into Account just the “Wireless Revenue” of all operators and calculate it & calculate for each of the operators. There is some ongoing difference between what TRAI Numbers and numbers reported by the company to shareholders. Nonetheless, it gives the picture with a 50-100bps margin of error.
