As the Valley innovates stronger platforms with fabulous business models have emerged and this time it is all about Social Connectivity in the context of Facebook or similar platform, but for now lets assume Facebook. I am a reasonably good analyst in placing bets in the IT & Telecom sector with good hit ratio of 90% over the past decade 🙂 Four years ago, I wrote Facebook is the new WWW and today you all know which is the most popular Website / Service on the Internet. I will be writing series of posts on how Facebook has influenced half a billion and is preparing to get another billion [800 mn from ChIndia] on to the the platform within the next few years [by 2015].
Seeing the trends in handheld devices [ Mobile + Tablet & variants etc] I can’t stop myself from seeing a new platform emerging and a billion devices boot-up to Facebook and connecting to the new converged network. [2015] I believe their is every reason for Windows Client OS to be History. WTF? Am I insane ? Well, I can’t help it as I don’t see a reason to BUY one. Just 3 days ago their was a post saying Facebook must do a browser, absolutely, they must and the Chrome OS which Google is chasing might actually fit into the business of Facebook.
In the next few years, close to a billion ChIndians will log on to the Converged Network. My guesstimate tells they’ll log-on to the Facebook browser and stay connected as they’ll be able to accomplish every thing they’d want to [wait for the next few posts].
Like how Google boasted of having the Biggest Web Index in 2006, Facebook boasts of the Largest Social Connections and interactions, in short some parts of our life [Recall MyLifeBits ?] People are addicted to this Platform and Facebook has done an excellent job by opening the platform selectively and encouraging Applications to run over it, thus extending the ecosystem. The 90s belonged to Microsoft Desktop Developers, the decade of 2000 saw Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. The present decade in my opinion belongs to Converged Networks and Facebook like Platform on the Consumer Side.
