MTS – Shyam Tele Creates History in Indian Telecom – Offers Free Calls in Rajasthan for 999 Days

If you have been thinking of Airtel Special 5 as cool product, its a Gimmick to survive the competition from new operators. I have already received tip-off from leading Telecom Analysts on Dalal Street about new operators readying to cut throats of incumbents [Yes I mean it, i’ll post it in a while or early morning tomorrow]

MTS India – [Shyam Sistema] CDMA Wireless service provider in a release just minutes ago has created history in India offering FREE calls to all MTS subscribers within Rajasthan for a whopping 999 days. Offer valid for new as well as existing customers on recharging for Rs 999 where in you will get talk time worth Rs 500 and Lifetime Validity.

Mr. Leonid Musatov, Chief Marketing Officer of Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited said,

MTS already has over 1 million subscribers in Rajasthan, and is growing at a much faster rate than the industry. This unique value proposition from MTS will help people of Rajasthan to exercise the true spirit of freedom even beyond the Independence Day. The offer may be availed by new as well as existing customers on purchase of a First Recharge Card (FRC) or Special Tariff Voucher (STV) of Rs.999/-. Subscribers will get a talk time of Rs.500/- and a core validity for lifetime. This is a very appealing offer for existing and new MTS subscribers as they can now make unlimited number of local calls within MTS network absolutely free for not just a month or two but for a whopping 999 days.

Local calls to other networks and STD calls will be charged at 50p and Re.1 per minute respectively. MTS Rajasthan also offers 100% full talk-time top ups of Rs.301, 401 & 501.

No folks, I am not advertising for MTS but can you believe the disruptive tariff structure ? MTS has another innovative offering in Kerala – First Minute Free.  Any competitors willing to match MTS product ?

Update: Quick Thought – Post Mobile Number Portability implementation [Dc-1-2009], if such disruptive offers continue to hit the market, then be prepared to witness good churn in subscribers, unseen in the world ever before. Sometimes I wonder, if Sunil Bharti Mittal could see this coming and thus doing what Steve Case of AOL did with Time Warner, likewise Bharti Airtel with MTN 😉 Ofcourse I AGREE that Airtel by itself is a strong business without any doubt, but to fulfill ambitions of growth that Mittal enjoyed over decade, he wants MTN.
