Reliance maybe the first to launch WiMax Broadband for consumers in Bangalore, but had some issues and coverage was limited. Tata Communications [erstwhile VSNL] has launched “Limited Edition Special Offer” Indicom Wimax Broadband in Bangalore. [Yes that’s right, the official launch and branding are still in pipeline].
Tata Communications WiMax Infrastructure in Bangalore:
Unlike Reliance Communications, which kicked off with less than 50 WiMax towers, Tata Communications debut will be with over 120 WiMax towers linking corners of “Namma Bengalooru” 🙂 I had read a lot about DHCP issues with Reliance. It is told that, the problem was with their server being unable to handle too many requests when the connections were reset, mostly when new towers were added [some kind of system reset was done]. Tata Indicom has been extremely cautious about it.
Tata Communications – Indicom WiMax Broadband Plans and Offer:
In this limited edition special offer, [I am not sure when it ends, but is likely to run atleast till Dec-31st] consumers can choose from Pre-Paid or Post-Paid plans. More details on plans available on broadband forum.
One of the other things I am really particular is customer support. Tata Communications call center will handle all support related issues. You may contact the following numbers to establish your connection – 99805 46805 / 98867 67690 / 93433 78853. So Bangaloreans, lets goBroabandddd 😉

I made an enquiry about wimax (bangalore) on 18th January and received feasibility confirmation on the 21st. No one ever called me although i was told that i would be contacted by someone from their end. I don’t remember the number of calls I made to their office, how many minutes I had to wait for the connection to be transferred from the broadband dept to the wimax dept. As many have said above, the reply i get is, we have “escalated” this, “we have logged a complaint”, “we have put you on high priority”. I don;t know if these people have any idea what “escalation” or “high priority” means.I am so pissed off, i am going for sify if I dont get a reply soon. I have heard about how bad sify is but the extent of frustration is such that even if i dont get good results from sify, i want to take it just because of the lack of commitement from these people. I never expected TATA to be so bad.

Hi This is Rafi,
Summary: Tata Indicom Wimax is CRAP and their customer support is WORSE.
I applied for and got the connection within a week in KR Puram, Bangalore. I could browse the same night. The speed was upto 30 kbps for downloads.
Unfortunately, I am not able to connect from the next day onwards.
I have been calling their Customer Service, who make me wait endlessly, do not give any concrete answer.
After about 48 hrs, one guy visited my house, checked the settings, which were all fine. He started blaming the people who installed the receiver.
After that another 48 hrs have elapsed, I have called them about 4-6 times but nothing has happened as yet.
To SunilKumar:
THe tataIndicom servers are down since Sunday(10th Feb 08) around HSR layout in Bangalore. Any idea when they will be up?
As usual Cust.service guys are not able to answer. Do you know what is going on?
Hie Guys,
Me again. I have to say customer care is tiring. No luck so far. They keep on doing the repetitive process of verifying IP, checking signal strength. Each time they say someone will come and check it out. Then when i dont see any response, i call them up and again back to square one.
Grrr… I dont want to say anything more about VSNL Tata Indicom Broadband.
Will post when i finally have a working connection. And guys stay away from wimax for now.
I have recently (15th feb) called TI customer care. To my surprise they have added up WIMAX in the call menu instead of making us to wait for minutes together by transferring call to the wimax dept. And surprisingly the call is attended by the service executive very fast and they are somewhat providing nice trouble shootings to get back the connection. Its a good improvement in the customer service of Tata indicom
Hello Guys,
Please provide your valuable unbaised review for the TI WiMax Service which is currently being offered. I’m currently is a SIFY user getting really pissed off with the connection quaility offered to me over Ethernet Cables. SIFY CUSTCARE proved to be unsuccessful as the entire network quality in my area seems like degraded and no one really cares to rectify this despite my repeated attemps to CUSTCARE
Please suggest if we could chose TI WiMax as a reliable service provider and also provide yourvaluable experiences to help me/us(+others) decide
Today I got Wimax installed in Bangalore – Jayanagar 9th block area with 512 option. Speed is really awesome and so far so good. Let’s hope for the best ahead.
