Reliance maybe the first to launch WiMax Broadband for consumers in Bangalore, but had some issues and coverage was limited. Tata Communications [erstwhile VSNL] has launched “Limited Edition Special Offer” Indicom Wimax Broadband in Bangalore. [Yes that’s right, the official launch and branding are still in pipeline].
Tata Communications WiMax Infrastructure in Bangalore:
Unlike Reliance Communications, which kicked off with less than 50 WiMax towers, Tata Communications debut will be with over 120 WiMax towers linking corners of “Namma Bengalooru” 🙂 I had read a lot about DHCP issues with Reliance. It is told that, the problem was with their server being unable to handle too many requests when the connections were reset, mostly when new towers were added [some kind of system reset was done]. Tata Indicom has been extremely cautious about it.
Tata Communications – Indicom WiMax Broadband Plans and Offer:
In this limited edition special offer, [I am not sure when it ends, but is likely to run atleast till Dec-31st] consumers can choose from Pre-Paid or Post-Paid plans. More details on plans available on broadband forum.
One of the other things I am really particular is customer support. Tata Communications call center will handle all support related issues. You may contact the following numbers to establish your connection – 99805 46805 / 98867 67690 / 93433 78853. So Bangaloreans, lets goBroabandddd 😉

Hi All,
I have always used Airtel Broadband, everything was great. They didn’t have feasibility in Marathahalli. Basically, not left with too much of a choice but to try something like TataIndicom WiMax. After reading the blog, it seems that it is a disaster that is bound to happen. Anyways, Hoping someone can help..
1) I made a request online for broadband connection in Bangalore (TataIndicom), they told me about WiMax. A executive guy called up and gave me the rates. He came to my place without an identification and a torn application form . It is so hard to contact him by phone, he never picks up his call for days together. After reading the blog, I am even more skeptic. How do I check whether this guy is from TataIndicom? He wants four months charges in cash..
2) The executive gave me contact for a technical guy, but the technical guy said that as my apartment is between big buildings the WiMax will not work. He visited the place again, said that it will work if placed in the 2nd floor (my apt is 4th floor). Will the guys coming to install figure it out and will it work fine?
3) I have an VoIP device that I use. With Airtel Broadband, I had the wall output connected to DSL Modem (ADSL- Netgear) which was connected to the VoIP device (which is also a router) then to the VoIP phone and my laptop.
The technical guy told me that the VoIP device will not work with WiMAX internet. I do not understand why? Any inputs or help on this.
Thanks
Well Wimax is up n running—
I HAVE USED RELIANCE WIMAX BEFORE—-THE SPEEDS AND CUSTOMERCARE IS BETTER THAN RELIANCE WIMAX WHERE I HAD A HORRID TIME–THE ENGINEERS/AGENTS AT RELIANCE ARE UNFRIENDLY UNHELPFUL AND DONT KNOW WHAT THEY R DOING.in contrast i have had a good experiance with tata wimax till now–planning to setup a wi fi router on that–anyone knows how it can be done
Hie All,
This is regarding the VSNL TATA Indicom WIMAX connection. I stay at Basavanagar(near HAL) and got it installed on the 18th of Jan. The service engineers installed and showed me the connection working on their laptop and left. I did not have time to verify whether it was working on my PC(entirely my fault) as i had to leave.
I came back on Monday and found that i could not connect and the login page never loaded. On calling up customer service they said they had send a service engineer who turned up 2 days later(23rd) and analysed and told me the signal was very weak(only 2 when it should be abt 16, i am not quite sure what it was) and the installation was not right and the reciever would have to be installed at a different location and the service engineers who installed it will have to do the same.
After that i have called up customer care atleast 5-6 times and each time they would repeat the same old process of telling the IP that my PC has acquired etc,etc and say my complaint is put on high priority. No action has happened after that and i have taken a prepaid connection of which i have already lost 12 days.
Advice to all, make sure the connection is working on your PC before you sign and let the installation engineers leave.
As for me again getting back to calling customercare to give my complaint the highest priority

My application number is 1446456,i have given money on 7th Jan ,got email on 8th that they have done the fesibility test and giving the connection in 10 days after lot of folloe up guys came on 28th Jan and inform that they are not getting signal so it is not possible and will get my money back, they didnt try much and said not possible .
Please take required action.
thanks

Hi,
I got Wimax connection on 30th Jan 2008. My concern is im using secured laptop for my office work. So there is no option to configure IP in the laptop as everything is disabled in laptop.
Can i go for router and configure IP in the router? is this possible? Plz any one of u let me know.
On 29th january 2008 I have lost connection to the internet. Whenever i am switching on my PC it wont get connected to the TI network at all. When I tried customer care, they will first tell that the call landed up on broadband section and they will transfer the call to WIMAX section. Even if you wait for 15 min also you cant get connected to the executive. This problem I faced not for just one time.. More than 5 times i tried in 2 days ( imagine how much I might have spent). Even I have called the direct sales executive who had recommended me to get the connection, but didnt get any proper solution from him. But one of the very senior person from TI Mr. Jagadeesan had called me and asked me about the problem. The next day himself along with the service engineers came to my house and they dismantled the existing antenna and did few testings and they told they will come the next day to fix it right. On the same day Mr. Jagadeesan called me again and asked me about the status. Since no one came there after, he had told that he will take care of this issue. There after more than 3-4 times he itself called me and kept on updating me of the processes.. and today the service engineers came again and given back the connection. Even after that also Mr. Jagadeesan called me back and asked whether its working well or not. I am really delighted to see such a dedicated person in TI. Like his own work, he takes care of the customer problems. I express my sincere thanks to him who had took all the efforts to get this problem rectified
hi sunil,
Can you provide me the details of “Area Of Coverage ” for the wimax connection . Previously i had applied for Reliance Wimax Connection and after giving the entire amount to them , i was told that there is no coverage in my area. It was some 2 month back and i’ve not yet the refund amount as well . So , i would prefer to take any connection only after , i’m assured to getting the connection. Hope you understand my concern. I’m giving you my full address here , if you can check , whether its really feasible to provide a connection here , then that would be a great help .
Thanks,
Amit

TATA WIMAX is worst service i have ever seen frequent disconnections upload speed of just 20-40 kbps no open ports and thier customer care dont know any thing whatsoever i took wimax prepaid and disconnected it in just 3-4 days go for airtel or bsnl or sify these are much better . Tata people dont even give refunds on disconnections nor they provide service all they do is make customer fool thank god i paid them by check so i did a stop payment and saved my 6495 rs. i warn anyone who is going for tata wimax u will not be satisfied
Hie Guys,
I have posted a comment on January 30th. The status still remains the same, i have called up vsnl tata indicom broadband customer service atleast another 3 times after that. Each time they have said someone would be coming to check the connection and still nothing has happened. I really think it was a bad idea to have taken the connection. I have even sent a mail to the nodal head who promptly replied that it was being looked into. Now already lost 19 days of internet time, what is the point of customer care.
