If you are from the Advertising & Marketing background, then you’ve gotta to love how Tata DoCoMo changed the entire marketing strategies of all the Wireless Operators in the second largest Market in the world [in terms of subscriber numbers] Tata DoCoMo continues to lead the number of Wireless Connections sold in India for the fourth consecutive month. It is a commendable job by a new operator [ most additions are on GSM and not in Tata Indicom, CDMA] The number of Wireless Connections added by Tata DoCoMo in the last 4 months are as follows – August – 3.41 mn, Sept-4.0 mn, Oct-3.86mn, Nov-3.32mn. TCS’ Ramadorai has already dropped the bombshell Continue reading Wireless Connections @ 500mn – Tata DoCoMo’s Per Second Billing Magic Continues
According to figures released by the COAI, the Indian GSM Wireless Subscribers base has touched 288 mn [ 288,363,482] excluding Reliance GSM. GSM operators added a record 10.8 mn subscribers in the month of March-09, the highest ever addition since they began operations in India.
- Vodafone Essar India added 2.84 m subscribers beating Airtel to reach 68.76 m subs
- Bharti Airtel added 2.80 m subs takings its total tally to 93.9m
- Idea Cellular added 1.5 m subs ans is now serving 43 m subs across India
- Aircel is coming strong as it added 1 m subs and now has a total subscriber base of 18.4 m
- BSNL continues to be the laggard adding just another 1.08 m subs and has a base of 46 m subs
Will be updated when Reliance GSM releases its numbers.
I just saw a newsflash on CNBC TV18 that Reliance GSM has added a whopping 5 mn customers on its newly launched GSM Platform. [I believe this is an all time India Record] The rest of GSM Pack led by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL etc have managed to add 9 mn customers in Jan. Bharti Airtel’s executives had downplayed Reliance GSM move, but this is strong indication that Anil Ambani will break the COAI lobby before MRTPC gets into action.
If you had read my coverage on Reliance Communication’s analyst call, they had clearly indicated they will break many more records after rolling out. [I am expecting them to announce their reach has been enhanced further]
Sorry, Airtel’s Mittal in an emergency meeting is just my personal guess, don’t be serious 🙂
Post will be Upadted… stay tuned.
Bharti Airtel added 2.7 mn half of which came from category B & C service areas. Vodafone India added 2.4 mn subs, but its share of net adds slipped below the 25% mark. Idea cellular [Spice included] witnessed a strong growth. Idea’s subscriber growth was driven by strong additions in Mumbai where the company tripled its net additions from 84,000 to 278,000 due to an attractive offer in response to RCOM’s GSM launch. The company added 2 mn new customers or 20% of GSM net adds in Jan-09.
Excluding RCom’s GSM segment, the GSM mobile subscriber base at the end of Jan-09 is 267.5 mn. Recent reports say that net 5 mn subscriber addition by RCom includes CDMA + GSM [ nothing new about how our news channel cover and flash updates]. Waiting for official response 🙂
