With impending threat from the launch of Reliance Jio Infocomm, industry leader and India’s only integrated Telecommunications Service Provider made aggressive moves to acquire spectrum from Videocon and later from Aircel to rollout and stabilize 4G LTE Networks in coherence with existing 2G Voice and 3G Mobile Data Network. These deals and Jio RCOM spectrum trading / sharing deals have resulted in spectrum Continue reading Tata’s 800Mhz Spectrum Band on Telcos Radar
India’s largest integrated Telecommunications service provider Airtel has bid for Videocon’s spectrum in six circles in the 1800MHz band, thereby significantly strengthening its 4G footprint to 19 circles from 15 earlier. It has bid at a price of Rs 44bn, which seems higher than the March 2015 auction price of Rs 30bn.
Videocon has contiguous spectrum in six circles (Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, UP(E and W) , and Bihar). In MP and Haryana, Bharti already has spectrum Continue reading Airtel Strengthens 4G LTE Footprint ahead of Reliance Jio Launch
The Competition Commission of India – CCI has cleared the merger of MTS Sistema with Reliance Communications Ltd. This merger will future-proof RCOM’s 4G LTE play in the most efficient 800/850 MHz spectrum band, acknowledged as the best-in-class standard for data services. With MTS’ merger into RCOM, RCOM will have the largest holdings of 850 MHz band spectrum in the country — most suited for 4G LTE, which is the future Continue reading RCom all set to Join 4G-LTE Race Post-Merger with MTS Sistema
A key question I’m always asked is whether Airtel should have launched 4G even before to give it more time. The strategy behind Airtel’s 4G LTE launch was to pre-empt Reliance Jio. It launched commercial 4G operations in August-15 across 296 towns. Airtel has subsequently increased its footprint (is an ongoing process). The launch has been backed by heavy marketing to educate Continue reading Did Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Undermine 4G-LTE Which Reliance Jio embraced ?
3 Months Ago I was the first to write that Airtel’s 4G LTE Strategy is to sabotage the hype surrounding Reliance Jio Infocomm and since then the management has taken giant strides to launch 4G LTE in 300 Cities across India.
One of our users tried Airtel 4G continuously for a week in Mumbai Region and files that Airtel 4G speed averages 4x of 3G, coverage remains patchy and more (capex) needs to be done. Aitel 4G speed unsurprisingly, is Continue reading Airtel’s Go 4G Strategy Begins Well in 300 Cities
The management of Idea Cellular in the past had dismissed any threats from 4G-LTE Mobile Data Services. However, in the latest Call, the management took a sharp “U” turn and said Idea is and was an ROI focused company and based on its observations in the past few months it saw a business case in advancing LTE rollouts. It cited the rapid uptake of 4G devices, convergence between prices of 3G and 4G equipment and increasing willingness of consumers as key drivers for advancing LTE rollout. The company said 3G sites would largely be co-located for the next few years and did not see the need for more than 1-2% standalone 3G sites. 4G sites would be100% co-located for a few years.
