The TRAI has passed an order which requires all Wireless / Mobile Communication Service Providers[CDMA /GSM ] to offer atleast one per second billing plan in both post-paid and pre-paid segments. Please note that their shall be atleast One Per Second Pulse Plan. Not all Bill Plans are on the basis Per Second Pulse, as wrongly interpreted by many people.
What the TRAI Order Doesn’t Cover is, the tariff per pulse. Thus operators are free to charge, for example – it can be 1 Paise/Second or 1.2 Paise/Second, etc Due to competition and the dynamics of market, the Tariff / Pulse will automatically be low.
Restricting Number of Calling Plans: To avoid confusion and let the consumer make an informed decision, TRAI has mandated that the number of billing plans cannot exceed 25 in any given Telecom Circle, at any given time by an operator.
Tariff Regulation on Premium Rate Calls / SMS for Contests etc The TRAI Order states that Calls /SMS made to participate in contests and competitions and to vote in television and radio programmes cannot be charged more than Four times of the applicable local call charges in the Tariff plan opted by the subscriber.
Since 2009, all operators have introduced atleast One Per Second Billing Plan following Tata DocoMo. So will TRAI’s next axe be on cutting the Mobile Call Termination Charges ? This is eagerly awaited by New Operators, Reliance Communications and Reliance Infotel Broadband.
call termination charge should be down to zero, may be by step by step – from 20p/min to 10p/min, then to 5p/min and then free.
secondly I am looking to see official Govt. policy for MVNO. Virgin is not mature MVNO, but if Infotel turns to be an MVNO the chances to get success is huge.
What TRAI messed up in recent times, is restriction of validity period of any STV to 90 days maximum. This sucks, because many operators like Rcom, tata, mts offering 1p/2sec call rate for 1 year for 100 Rs around.
