The long delayed Mobile Number Portability went live in Haryana on the 25th of November. After 2 weeks into effect, there hasn’t been much churn and this can be attributed to the fact that Haryana represents a small number of mobile users.
About 2% of prepaid users and 4%?5% postpaid users in Haryana circle are expected to opt for MNP as per the current porting requests in 14 days. Tata Teleservices have got about 21% of the customers who have opted for MNP. RCom has managed to get 80% of the Post Paid Port-ins, inline with the management strategy of getting only high paying post?paid customers as their ARPU is equivalent to 10 pre?paid subscribers.
Vodafone Essar is trying to retain its existing customers and attracting fresh high end customers. As MNP extends to other Circles, we will get a better view of its effects on different service providers. The delay in launch of 3G by incumbents [Idea, Airtel and Vodafone] is to accommodate any unexpected spurt in MNP customers on the 3G bandwidth and eventually roll-out 3G services.
Update as on Jan-16-2010 Data:
Nobody wants CDMA connections. Haryana Circle lost total of 15,000 CDMA connections while it added mere 1600. Overall, BSNL & Reliance Communications are the biggest losers with net loss of 20,503 and 13,711 connections so far. Vodafone is the largest gainer with 20,748 connections.
What is the source for this information please?
It is not Barka Dutt / Vir Sanghvi for sure 🙂 Porting Registry & Company. You can take the numbers for first 14 days for granted.
I have tried to contact few operators in delhi but they do not seem to be so excited about mnp. Instead they were more interested to sell new connections. sighhhh
