Bharti Airtel announced its results for quarter ending June-2010. Its Profits are down by 32% on a YoY basis to Rs 16.8 Bn. Wireless Tariff war in India has hit the bottom-line as well adding to its woes is the 23 days of African Operations. Bharti Airtel has shifted its accounting practices to report the results in IFRS – International Financial Reporting Standards format. They have included the results of its Global Operations [Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Africa, Channel Islands etc] as well as that of Indus Towers proportionate to its stake.
Key excerpts from the Results are as follows,
- Airtel Broadband Subscribers reach 1.34 Mn
- Bharti Airtel’s Global Subscriber base stands at 183.37 Mn [176.97 Mn Wireless + 3.153 Mn Wireline & Broadband + 3.243 Digital / DTH TV]
- Airtel Digital TV /DTH has 3.2 Mn customers with 1 out of every 4 new DTH customers bagged by the company
- Wireless ARPU down to Rs 215 and ARPM down to Rs 0.45 while MoU increased to 480 / Month from 468
- ARPU of Wireline / Landline /broadband customer increased to Rs 961 / Month from Rs 937 a quarter ago
- Bharti Airtel Africa has 36 MN customers with an ARPU of $7.4 / Month [Rs 333]
- Revenue from VAS – Valued Added Services, which includes Voice Mail Service, Call Management, Airtel Talkies and other value added services like Hello Tunes, Music on Demand and Airtel Live contributed to approximately 11.6% of the total revenues
- African Operations reported a loss of Rs 915 Mn and Africa Others reported a Loss of Rs 1.53 Bn
