Reliance Communications is ringing the cash register by offering its OFC network as as well as passive Infrastructure for other Telecom companies. The company has scored a hat-trick – RCom -Etisalat DB in July, RCom – S Tel just a few days ago and today its RCom – Aircel.
The proposed agreement with Aircel envisages sharing of towers, providing voice carriage and bulk bandwidth and is pegged at around $300 million. The deal will cover all circles where the latter operates and is expected to launch operations.
Aircel is a joint venture between Maxis Communications Berhad of Malaysia and Apollo Hospital Enterprise of India, with Maxis Communications holding a majority stake of 74%. Aircel has nearly 12,000 towers that it plans to hive off into a separate entity in order to mop up funds for expanding its operations. It will be interesting to watch who will pick up Aircel’s pie.
