Fighting click-fraud hits Google’s bottomline

This post is somewhat irrelevant in the context Telecom and Broadband in India. Since Google is the largest and most complex computational system in the world with the Best Advertising platform, thought of this small post.

The “Do No Evil”company’s bottomline was hit due to some tweaks in showing the Advertising links. In a comment to Stacey Higginbotham, I had said

I guess, this is because they fine tuned the click-able area of the advertise to the Title and URL in a Text Advertisement. It was a move to reduce click-fraud, we’ll know on the 31st.

This is what Yahoo! is reporting for fall in Google’s earnings,

Google executives said a revision in the company’s formula for showing advertising links crimped the fourth-quarter results by reducing the number of revenue-generating clicks. Without providing details, the executives said Google made the change to decrease the frequency of “accidental” clicks on ads.

So everybody who have had a fair approach in monetizing their web properties with the Best Advertising System in the world shouldn’t see any drop in their earnings check for the month of Jan-08. If anybody has access to latest click-fraud statistics, kindly share the same.
