All the decks are now clear for BSNL’s rapid wireless expansion with Ericsson accepting the terms of the revised BSNL GSM 2G / 3G tender. Ericsson has also submitted a bank guarantee accepting the offer. We all know that, BSNL’s mega GSM tender was in a mess with change of guard in the IT & Telecom Ministry. Ericsson will now comlpete the work at $97 / line as per the revised order which will include both 2G and 3G lines. Ericsson will now supply 9.7 million 2G lines and another 3.5 million 3G lines, but only after the government finalises the policy on 3G.
The second highest bidder, Nokia-Siemens Network, is also expected to submit its bank guarantee for a combined 2G and 3G order of around 9.5 million lines.
