It is probably hard for you to believe if I say that Bollywood producers earn in excess of 50% of their revenues from non box-office channels like DVDs, Cable & Dish TV, Internet and Mobile[Ringtones, Clips, Wallpapers, etc]
Mauj Telecom has been the front runner in m-enabling the bollywood content for cell phones. Earlier this year I had reported about the Mobile music market touching Rs750 crores [$166 Million]. With the release of superhit movie, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Spiel Studios signed up Arshad Warsi the co-hero and released a mobile based game, Arshads Fight Club setting a new trend in the Indian mobile industry – Developing bollywood content based games for mobile. Mobile content developers are busy developing games based on local Indian movies.
Rajiv Hiranandani of Mobile2Win, said
Mobile gaming in India is a Rs 70 crore market today and out of that Bollywood constitutes Rs 10 crore. The Bollywood segment is expected to touch Rs 30 crore in two years.
India / East is likely to be the trendsetter – As I said in May-2006, that East will rule the West in Mobile Technology.
