Coinciding with the visit of Chinese President Hu Jinto to India, telecom equipment major ZTE is all set to operate in India through a partnership with B K Modi’s MCorpGlobal. Unconfirmed reports in the past have said that, ZTE wasn’t entertained in India on the grounds of national security. ZTE was also one of the bidders along with Motorola for BSNL’s mega tender. Decision on Motorola-ZTE’s disqualification is still pending in the Delhi High Court.
Mr Modis said,
Initially, this service-based company will import telecom infrastructure. While ZTE products will be preferred, we will import equipment from other manufacturers also as ZTE does not produce the complete array of telecom infrastructure. At a later stage, this company will set up a manufacturing unit in India.
They also intend to setup a R&D center in India.
