Malaysia’s largest Mobile Phone Operator, Maxis’ Indian subsidiary, Aircel will receive an investment of $450 Million, 50% more than previous year’s $300 Million. Maxis acknowledges its solid quarterly performance because of its Indian Operations.
Aircel is planning to expand in the remaining 14 GSM circles where it has obtained permission to operate in. Aircel subscriber base has crossed the 5 Million mark and going strong. Aircel also announced that it has successfully tested 3G services in Chennai and will also conduct trials in Coimbatore, Bhubaneshwar, Shillong and Guwahati before the end of March. TRAI and IT Ministry are mum on 3G licensing, pending spectrum issues with Ministry of Defence.
