Is the Open-Wireless access gaining momentum in the west ?

After the open source software momentum is the open-wireless and free internet access for everyone gaining momentum in the west ? Earlier this year, Google invested in a lesser known company, FON. Fon was born in Spain and is being adopted in the US. Fon is also in talks with next generation metro network gear manufacturer, Tropos. Another NASDAQ listed company, Speedus, has floated a subsidary, WiBiKi (Wireless Ubiquity) to promote free and open internet access by making its softwarefreely available for your home routers. So very soon a Seattle resident can surf the net free of cost in NY without shelling out extra bucks at Starbucks 😉
